建仁寺を建てた栄西は、日本に禅の教えを本格的に広めただけでなく、中国（当時の宋）からお茶の種を持ち帰った人物。お茶が日本でこれほど普及したのは、栄西がその効能を伝えたことがきっかけだと言われている。禅とお茶は、最初から深い繋がりがあった。
Eisai, the founder of Kennin-ji, didn't just bring Zen teachings to Japan — he also brought back tea seeds from Song Dynasty China. Japanese tea culture blossomed because Eisai promoted tea's medicinal benefits. From the very beginning, Zen and tea have been inextricably linked.
天井の「双龍図」は実は21世紀のアート The "Twin Dragons" are actually 21st-century art
法堂の天井を埋め尽くすド迫力の龍、実は2002年に描かれたもの。建仁寺の創建800年を記念して、約2年の歳月をかけて制作された。畳108畳分もの大きさがあり、まるで生きているかのような躍動感に圧倒される。歴史あるお寺に、現代の最高傑作が共存している。
The awe-inspiring dragons on the ceiling of the Hatto hall were actually painted in 2002. Commissioned to mark the 800th anniversary of the temple, it took two years to complete. Covering an area equivalent to 108 tatami mats, it's a modern masterpiece breatheing life into ancient halls.
